CANDIA PARK VILLAGE
Candia Park village - Crete, Greece
Buried in lush greenery with panoramic views of Mirabello Bay, the heart of this delightful, family-friendly resort near the seaside town of Agios Nikolaos is a Provencal-style village square with its own clock tower, but the main hubs are the two pretty pools and a glorious, pine-fringed beach. Winding paths lead past two-storey houses whose pastel-tinted lime exteriors peek out from a jungle of bougainvillea, palm trees and fruit trees.
There are 222 apartments and suites in five categories – all have self-catering facilities (two-ring hotplates and plenty of cooking utensils) and rain showers. Family Apartments and Seafront Suites have a main bedroom and living area, whilst Superior Family Apartments have larger living rooms with pullout sofa beds, and bigger bathrooms.
SERVICES AND FACILITES
Most of the staff have been here for years and it shows: service is family-style and attentive. At breakfast the waiters hurry over with extra paper napkins, cheerily mop up after the children and are always on hand with fresh pots of coffee. Enjoy your drink at the beach bar during the sunsets or relax in the crystal blue water at the beach.
SPA & FITNESS
One large main pool is surrounded by several kids' pools; a grassy slope tumbles down to a glorious strip of sandy beach fringed with pine trees. A path leading further along the rocky coastline has a sprinkling of private jetties with sun beds (ladders descend to the sea). The (small) Aegeo-operated spa offers a range of therapies. A shop sells suntan lotion and local treats.
FOOD & DRINKS
From self-catering to all-inclusive there’s something for every budget. Restaurant Agapi is the main spot on the pretty central square where breakfast and dinner are served. There’s a small à la carte menu but it's hardly worth bothering with because the buffet has a good choice of starters, salads and hot dishes.
